Beatrix is a Latin name. It is derived from Viatrix, the feminine form of the late Latin name Viator which meant "voyager, traveller". It was also a common name amongst early Christians, though the spelling was altered by association with the Latin beatus, meaning "blessed".

The Spanish and Portuguese form of this name is Beatriz, the Italian form is Beatrice and the French form is Béatrice. See Beatrice (given name) for other derivatives.

English and German: from a Late Latin personal name, which was borne by a saint executed in Rome, together with Faustinus and Simplicius, in the early 4th century. The original form of the name seems to have been Viātrix, a feminine version of Viātōr ‘voyager (through life)’, which was common among early Christians. This was then altered by association with Latin Beātus ‘blessed’ (Via- and Bea- being pronounced very similarly in Late Latin).
