Los Antonios is the nomen of the gens Antonia, one of the most important families of ancient Rome; almost all its branches are commoners. The family claimed its origin from Anton, a son of the Greek demigod Heracles. The women of this family used to bear the name Antonia, according to Roman nomenclature. The Antonii provided several important figures in the future of Rome, as shown below:

  • Titus Antonius Merenda, decemviro in 450 and 449 BC. C. and first Antonio who stands out in the magistracies. It is from the patrician branch.
  • Mark Antony the Orator, grandfather of Mark Antony (circa 143-87 BC.C.).
  • Marcus Antonius Creeticus, father of Mark Antony (died 72-71 BC.C.).
  • Gaius Antonius Hybrid (the Cruel), son of Mark Antony the Orator and uncle of Mark Antony.
  • Mark Antony (83-30 BC.C.), ally of Julius Caesar, triumvir and later enemy of Octavian. He is possibly the best known representative of his family, and his life is narrated in William Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra.
  • Gaius Antonius, younger brother of Mark Antony (died 42 BC.C.).
  • Lucius Antony, the youngest of Mark Antony's brothers.

Women in the Antonia family also stood out: Antonia the Elder and Antonia the Younger.

Emperors Gordian I, Gordian II and Gordian III were also members of the Antonia family, although they were not related to the protagonists mentioned above.

My boyfriend's name is Antonios. The most common form being Antonio but his is spelled with an "S" on the end! I've never seen the name spelled this way. Until I met him, I had only heard of: Antonio, Anthony and in the female form Antonia or Antoinette. He is of Greek Ethnicity and/or Heritage and his first born son is named after him using the same spelling. He has a cousin with the same name but different spelling. His name is spelled, "Antonyo" I think my bfs name is unique and it definitely suits his personality. He just in my opinion "Looks Like" an Antonios ... Lol! He was born in Brooklyn New York so if you can imagine An "Italian Looking Greek Boy w-a Brooklyn New York Accent". . . . Yo, I just call him Tony and Fugeddaboutit!
