Aránzazu is a feminine given name of Basque origin in its Spanish variant. It comes from the Basque arantzazu, which comes to mean "place of thorns", and refers to the existence of abundant thorny bushes in the place of the apparition of the Virgin.
Basque: from the name of a place near Oñate in the province of Guipúzcoa, whose name means ‘thornbush’ in Basque. It was adopted as a given name because in 1469 the Virgin Mary appeared in a vision to a shepherd at this place.
