History and Origin
Bianca is a feminine given name or an Italian family name. It means "white" and is an Italian cognate of Blanche. Bianca may refer to:
Italian: from bianca white (i.e. ‘pure’, but cf. Blanche). The name was used by Shakespeare for characters in two of his plays that are supposed to take place in an Italian context: the mild-mannered sister of Katharina, the ‘shrew’ in The Taming of the Shrew, and a courtesan in Othello. Recently, it has been borne most famously by Bianca Jagger, the Nicaraguan fashion model, peace worker, and diplomat who was for a time married to the rock singer Mick Jagger.
Cognates: French: Blanche. Spanish: Blanca. Polish, Czech: Blanka.
