It is one of the few Slavic given names that are present throughout the Slavic language family, and is known in Poland since the beginning of the 13th century. It was popular in mediaeval times, where it has been recorded for about 700 people and during the 20th and early 21st centuries. It only dropped in popularity during the 16th century.
