Bukhari (بخاري), also spelled as Bokhari, Bukhary and Bukhori, is a common surname in Central and Western Asia, meaning "from Bukhara" (in today's Uzbekistan). Its Arabic version Al-Bukhari (Arabic: البخاري) was also used in the medieval Islamic world as a nisba (a specifier which is added at the end of names). The surname has also been used by the Bukhari Sayyids, the large majority of whom now reside in Pakistan.
