Canice is an Irish male given name, an anglicisation of Cainnech meaning "handsome". Kenneth is a Scottish name of the same origin. Cainnech of Aghaboe was a sixth-century saint, the patron saint of Diocese of Clogher of which Saint Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny is the seat. Canice is occasionally given as a boy's name in the diocese, which approximates County Kilkenny. Bearers of the name include the Kilkenny intercounty hurlers Canice Brennan and Canice Hickey.

Irish: from the Latinized form, Canisius, of the Old Irish personal name Cainnech (modern Gaelic Cainneach; cf. Coinneach). It seems to have been originally a byname meaning ‘handsome, fair one’, and was borne by a large number of early saints. The most important of these is St Cainnech of Aghaboe, patron of Kilkenny.
