History and Origin
Charis (Greek: Χάρις) is a given name derived from a Greek word meaning "grace, kindness".
In Greek mythology, a Charis is one of the Charites (Greek: Χάριτες) or "Graces", goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility; and in Homer's Iliad, Charis is the wife of Hephaestus. Charis was also known as Cale ("Beauty") or Aglaea ("Splendor").
Charis is also the Spartan name of a Grace.
English: from Greek kharis grace. This was a key word in early Christian thought, but was not used as a name in the early centuries after Christ or in the Middle Ages. As a given name it seems to be an innovation of the 17th century, chosen either to express the original idea of charity, or else as a reference to the three Graces (Greek kharites) of classical mythology (Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, of which the first and third have also been occasionally used as given names).
