History and Origin
Concepción is a feminine given name of Latin origin in its Spanish variant. It comes from the Latin conceptio (conception, generation). It has its origin in the Marian invocation of the Immaculate Conception, an article of faith of Catholicism that supports the belief that Mary, mother of Jesus, unlike all other human beings, was not reached by original sin but, from the first moment of her conception, that is, of her personal being, he was free from all sin.
Spanish: name commemorating the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. This doctrine was officially proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church only in 1854, but had been debated since the 12th century and reached a peak of popularity in the late Middle Ages.
Pet forms: Concha, Conchita.
Cognate: Portuguese: Conceição.
