History and Origin
Dario is a masculine given name, etymologically related to Darius.
Italian: from the Late Latin name Darius, Greek Dareios, originally a transliterated version of the name of various ancient Persian kings. The original form of the name seems to have been Darayavahush, composed of the elements daraya(miy) to hold, possess, maintain + vahu well, good. A rather obscure saint of this name was martyred at Nicaea with three companions at an uncertain date. The Latin form Darius is occasionally used as a given name in the United States.
