Fortunato is a masculine given name in its variant in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. It comes from the Latin fortunatus and means "the person who has fortune", derives from Fortuna, which in turn comes from fors, from the advervio forte and also sors and sorte, where it derives fortunatus. It is one of the most abundant name in its use in the nineteenth century. The fame in the Spanish environment is due to the famous novel by Benito Pérez Galdós, Fortunata and Jacinta. Variations such as Fortunia are common in Spanish.
