Hello Maria. Yes, it is actually my name. I am not Filipino, but from Italy. It is not a very common name in Italy, but a few people my age given this name. however, Italians pronounce it phonetically Gooya and I do not believe they have association with its' spanish origin. When I moved to the united states, children teased me terribly for this name becasue of the way my family pronounced it "Gooya". They teased me in school and called me Gooie Gooya. Now as an adult i find that in spanish speaking cultrue it is pronounce "Gheeya" and that is how I pronounce it. Is this how it is pronounce in the Philippines? I have to constantly correct people and remind them to pronounce "gheeya". I regret not chaning my name. It was considered beutifull while I lived in Italy, but in US it has given me trouble..
