History and Origin
Indalecio is a masculine given name in its Spanish variant. It is of disputed origin, Arabic according to some sources, although probably Iberian, perhaps with the meaning messenger of the gods. It is related to him the name of the indalo, Neolithic idol found in the Cave of the Signs, in the Almeria Sierra de María, although it is not clear if the proper name derives from indalo, or if they gave the idol a nickname derived from the name of the saint.
Spanish: from Latin Indaletius, a name of obscure derivation. St Indaletius was a 1st-century evangelist of Spain who worked principally at Urci in Almería and is believed to have died a martyr.
