History and Origin
Carp (Greek: Καρπος "fruit") is an almost obsolete male name.
Name days: June 8, September 24, October 26.
Russian: from the Late Greek personal name Karpos, from karpos fruit, produce, result. This seems to have been a short form of the name Karpophoros ‘fruit-bearing’, i.e. fruitful, productive. The name is found in the New Testament, when St Paul refers in passing to ‘the cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus’ (2 Timothy 4: 13); in the Eastern Church this person is believed to have been an early bishop.
