The kundalini (Sanskrit कुण्डलिनी, transcribed as kuṇḍalinī). In the framework of Hinduism, the kundalini or kuṇḍalinī is an invisible and immeasurable energy symbolically and allegorically represented by a snake, which sleeps coiled in the mūlādhāra (the first of the chakras – the seven energy circles – which is located in the perineum area). It is said that upon awakening this serpent, the yogi controls life and death. [citation needed] In Hinduism the kuṇḍalinī is regarded as the primordial energy or shakti or śakti (the sound of the ś is a sh buccinada) that comes to develop in fullness by reuniting in the atma (soul) with the Brahman.

Several doctrines use this concept of kuṇḍalinī: yoga, tantra, Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism, and Gnosticism.
