History and Origin
Lancelot is a given name from the Old French lancel, "servant".
Little used in the Middle Ages and in the classical era, the historicism of the romantics of the nineteenth century put it back in fashion.
It is celebrated on November 10 in reference to the sixteenth-century Italian religious Lancelot Avellin.
English: the name borne by one of King Arthur's best and most valued knights, who eventually betrayed his trust by becoming the lover of Queen Guinevere. The name is of uncertain origin. It is probably, like other Arthurian names, of Celtic derivation, but has been heavily distorted by mediation through French sources.
