History and Origin
Noah (Hebrew: Noah; נֹחַ, Noach, translated from Hebrew as "calming", "pacifying") is a male name. In the Bible (Book of Genesis, ch. 5, v. verses 28 -32), it is the last (tenth) of the antediluvian Old Testament patriarchs descended in a straight line from Adam. Following the command of God, Noah built an Ark on which he was able to escape with his family during the Flood, thereby becoming the successor of the human race.
