Oleg (Russian: Олег), Oleh (Ukrainian: Олег), or Aleh (Belarusian: Алег) is a Slavic given name. It derives from the Old Norse Helgi (Helge), meaning "holy", "sacred", or "blessed". The feminine equivalent is Olga.

Russian form of Helge. This name was introduced to Russia by the earliest Scandinavian settlers, and was borne by Prince Oleg of Kiev (d. 912), the Varangian leader who established Kiev as his capital in place of Novgorod and set up trading links with Byzantium. Since he was not a Christian, the name has never been sanctioned by the Russian Orthodox Church, unlike its feminine equivalent, Olga.
