Pimen (Greek: ποιμήν - shepherd) is a masculine given name of Greek origin. It is now used almost exclusively as a monk.
Russian: from the Greek name Poimēn ‘shepherd’. The name was a popular one among early Christians because of the New Testament parable of the Good Shepherd and his flock (cf. Pastor). It was borne in the 5th century by a hermit who lived in the Egyptian desert; he is a saint still greatly venerated in the Eastern Church.
