History and Origin
English: transferred use of the surname, derived from the name of a place in Hertfordshire, known in the Middle Ages as the ‘settlement of Royce’ (which name is an obsolete variant of Rose, from its Germanic form). It is now used as a given name especially among British West Indians, although the reasons for its popularity among them are not clear. It may, in some cases, be taken as a version of ‘Roy’s son'.
