History and Origin
Tahmineh is one of the female characters of the Shah Nâmeh.
Daughter of the king of Samangan, she married Rostam. She was the mother of Sohrab.
In the Shah Nameh, the story of Tahmineh and Rostam begins when Rostam loses his horse Rakhsh. It goes as far as the kingdom of Samangan. The king of Samangan reassures him and offers him hospitality for the night.
At night, Tahmineh enters Rostam's room and declares his love for him. Rostam calls a priest to unite them, and after the ceremony, they both spend the night.
Before leaving, Rostam offers a jewel to Tahmineh. Nine months later, Tahmineh gave birth to a son, Sohrab.
Years later, at the final battle between Iran and Turan, Rostam kills Sohrab and discovers upon him the jewel he had given to Tahmineh, thus discovering that he was his son.
