History and Origin
Zita is female given name.
The name may originate from the Italian or Persian word zita meaning young girl. In Basque, the word means saint. In Greek, the word means seeker.
Italian and English: from the name of a 13th-century saint from Lucca in Tuscany, who led an uneventful life as a domestic servant; she was canonized in 1696, and is regarded as the patroness of domestic servants. Her name was probably a nickname from the medieval Tuscan dialect word zit(t)a girl, although efforts have been made to link it with Greek zētein to seek.
