Amé is an ancient given name of the Middle Ages, popularized by two saints of the seventh century of the same name (see below the chapter Christian Saints). Frequent as a first name from 1600 to 1680, especially in the Vosges under the influence of Saint Amé de Remiremont, as well as in Savoy and Switzerland under the influence of Saint Amé de Sion, Amé fell into disuse in the seventeenth century in the Vosges and in the twentieth century in Switzerland. But it became a surname, which still persists today, especially in eastern France.
