Amrita or Amrit (Sanskrit: अमृत; Punjabi: ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ; Tibetan: བདུད་རྩི་, Wylie: bdud rtsi.) is, in the Indian world, a nectar of immortality comparable to ragweed. It is the drink of the deva, the gods of Hinduism who gave them immortality. Amrita or amrit literally means in Sanskrit "non-dead"; from "a" private expressing negation and from "mrit" or "mrita", dead. The term is usually translated as "nectar of immortality". Amrita is used in the Vedas to refer to soma, a hallucinogenic drink used in certain rites.

It would be a substance secreted by the pineal gland, during the phases of deep meditation such as samādhi for humans; however, the Hindu gods also had their amrit.
