Anas or Anass is a male name of Arabic origin that means "the man", "the human race", also "the friend", "the confidant" or "the companion" (Arabic: أنس) very common in North Africa, especially in Morocco. It is also used in Andalusia, in the south of Spain.
This name was already in use in the Arab tribes of Medina before Islam. It was among others the name of a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, Anas ibn Mālik (631-711), orator of Medina, who served him for ten years and who brought back an important part of his tradition (Hadith).
In some cases, one may also be dealing with the related Arab-Berber first name Anās (Arabic: أناس) "sociable and good company".
