Meaning and origin of the name: Angélique is a female name (it has also been used, very rarely, for boys). Of Greek origin it means similar to angels, especially in their function as messengers. Angelica can be celebrated on the feast day of Saint Angela, January 4 or January 27, or on one of the days on which angels are celebrated on September 29 (Western usage) or November 8 (Eastern use), or, following the revolutionary calendar, on May 23 (4 prairial).

Angélique is also a revolutionary name, taken from the revolutionary calendar, where it does not refer to angels, but to the flower. At the time of the French Revolution, it experienced a new favor, which lasted until the beginning of the twentieth century, before disappearing from the 1920s to the 1960s. Angélique novels and films gave it an important boom, with about 5000 little Angéliques each year until the 1980s. Since the 1990s, the name has been regularly assigned to 500 little girls.
