Argi is the Basque word for "light" in Basque mythology.

The Basques believe that it is the souls of their ancestors who manifest themselves to mortals in the form of a light. The belief that the souls of the deceased appear in the form of light is quite widespread in Vasconia (ancient people who occupied present-day Navarre).

Another legend about this entrenched belief:

At noon, in a house in Izura/Ostabat, a flame appeared on one of the vats of the winery. Those who lived there knew well that it was the soul of some of the deceased in their family. Following several apparitions the deceased informed them that he wanted masses to be celebrated for him. So they did and the deceased no longer manifested himself. There are places where it is believed that the souls of the deceased appear in their bodies, dressed in the same way as when they were buried, and holding a lit candle in their hands. In the region of MeƱaka (Bizkaia) it is said that this candle is a human bone. This light produced by a human bone is found elsewhere and one of the names is Mairu beso (Mairu's arm).
