Not correct. Perhaps ancient roots come from Phoenicia but this isn’t related in meaning to the name Firas. Firas comes from the Arabic root faras which means “prey”. Hence when a lion catches an animal, the feast is called “fareesa” in Arabic for feast. A result stemming from al-faras. The present participle of which is “yaftaris”. It is mostly associated with how the lion preys “ferociously”. There seems to be commonality in phonetic and meaning to the English word “fierce” “ferocity” “ferocious”. All words one associates with a lion. Language can be mysterious

The name Firas (or Pheoras more correctly in the Latin alphabet) has nothing to do with Arabic origin. It is mostly found today in Lebanon which was ancient Pheonicia! Pheonicia is a Greek name meaning "the land of colour red! For centuries the most valuable export product of Pheonicia and the most characteristic of that land was "Phoenon" or "Φοινον" in ancient Greek (also known as Porpheora/ Πορφοιρα. Pheonon was a wonderful type of red colour they produced and exported. The land and its' people were named "Φοινικες- Φοινικη", Pheonicia - Phoenicians after that! Thus, Phoeras/ Firas is a truly ancient Greek name. If you notice , Pheonicia is written in Latin with a" Ph" and "eo" why not "F" and "i"?? Well that's because when the Romans first came round they tried to translate the Greek Φοιρας into their alphabet so the closest they could get was Pheoras and Pheonicia instead of Finicia and Firas. the same goes for a huge number of Greek origin names and words such as "dolphin" and not dolfin, "sphrere" istead of sfere , Photography istead of fotografy and so on...other Greek names with a "-as" ending are : Ylas, Andreas, Selas, Hellas (Greece), and hundreds more...Today in Greece Firas exists only as a last name "Φοιρος"( when Greece became Christianised it was considered a pagan name...) and as a name of a town on the island of Santirini who's capital is called "Fira" ,"Φοιρα" ,named so because of all the red coloured rocks and earth because of the active volcano on the island! Greetings from Greece!
