Frode also Fródi or Fróði, (Old Norse: Frōðr; Old English: Frōda; Middle High German: Vruote) is the name of several legendary monarchs of Denmark who appear in various Nordic poems, texts and sagas, among the most important Beowulf (Frōda), Ynglinga saga, Gesta Danorum (Frotho) of Saxo Grammaticus and Skjöldunga saga (Frodo). A Danish king with the same name appears as a supporting character in the German epic Die Rabenschlacht, also in Grottasöngr. The name is probably an eponym for the Norse god Freyr.
