Dear Sir,
I would like to put the matters straight concerning the name Kully and its origins. The name is an abbreviation for names that start with Kul..such as Kulvinder, Kuldeep Kuljeet etcetc. These names are principally from the Indian sub continent and from the Sikh and Hindu communities. As far as I can recall the name Kully did not exist prior to 1966.
The name was given to me by my my friends( who were all white native, 8 and 9 years of age and residing in Gravesend and Northfleet in the County of Kent) in 1966 as they could not pronouncemy name KULVINDER. We were a group of friends sitting in the "Rec" a small playground (where we met after school to play: the name of the school was Rosherville Primary school which still exists)in the process of forming a " a gang" as all gang members needed a gang name I was named Kully. The only other gang name I can remember is Peter " The Tank" who lived opposite the "Rec".
For years the name Kully as far as I was aware was unique and I never came across it. But as the years rolled on and later with the inception of the www and then google the name Kully started to appear and in the last 10 years( maybe earlier) or so it has been adopted more and more,.such that I am no longer the only person named Kully . I am now 58 years of age and it is warming to see that a name that originated in a small playing field in the heart of Kent is now known all over the world.
