Magali (alternative form Magalie or Magaly) is a female given name of Provençal origin. It is celebrated on July 22.

The name Magali comes from the Persian margiritis to the Latin margarita through the Greek margiritis (a pearl (margaritifera), not the flower).

Another hypothesis, supported by the predominance of the name Magali in Provence, is that of a derivation of the name Mary Magdalene (Maria Magdalena in Latin, or Mary Magdalena in the Bible). The very ancient local cult of Mary Magdalene is linked to the Provençal tradition of the arrival of the saint, who came to evangelize the region, to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and her tomb, venerated in the cave transformed into a sanctuary in the Sainte-Baume massif. The celebration of the feast of the name Magali on July 22 (day of Saint Mary Magdalene) also goes in the direction of this very probable etymology.

French (of Provençal origin): name of uncertain derivation, possibly a form of Margaret. It has become widely known as a result of its occurrence in a popular Provençal folk song.
Variant: Magalie.
