Myron is a masculine given name used in English-speaking countries. This use was originally in honor of the ancient Greek sculptor Myron (Greek Μύρων), whose name meant "myrrh, perfume" in ancient Greek. Myron was fairly popular as a male given name in the United States during the early part of the 20th century. The popularity of the name declined during the 1960s and it is very rare today to see young people with the name Myron. The female equivalent of Myron is considered to be Myra.

English: from a classical Greek name, derived from Greek myron myrrh. The name was borne by a famous sculptor of the 5th century BC. It was taken up with particular enthusiasm by the early Christians because they associated it with the gift of myrrh made by the three kings to the infant Christ, and because of the association of myrrh (as an embalming spice) with death and eternal life. The name was borne by various early saints, notably a 3rd-century martyr of Cyzicus and a 4th-century bishop of Crete. Their cult is greater in the Eastern Church than the Western.
