Onesimus is a male Russian personal name of Greek origin; dates back to Ancient Greek. Ὀνήσιμος ("Onesimos") - "useful, beneficent". In Russian onomasticon, the etymologically related names Onesius (Anisios) and Onesiphorus are known.

The name entered the Christian name as the name of Onesimus, one of the apostles from the seventy, converted to Christianity by the apostle Paul; Onesimus is mentioned in the biblical Epistles to Philemon and the Epistle to the Colossians.
