Orm (Old Norse: Ormr) is a nickname whose origin comes from Old Norse and present in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Nynorsk, a word that means snake, worm or dragon. It became an Anglo-Saxon given name during the period of Viking expansion in the Danelaw.

One of the earliest examples is the legendary king Orm "broken shell" (Ormr Skjelamoli) king of Romsdal, before the eighth century; Sigurd Ragnarsson nicknamed "Sigurd serpent in the eye" (Sigurðr ormr í auga) in the ninth century; and Orm Eilivsson, jarl of Oppland during the reign of Harald III of Norway (d. 1066).

In Landnámabók (Book of Settlement) there are multiple entries of characters with that name, the first Viking settlers of Iceland. The Icelandic version of the name is Ormur.

The annals of Ulster and Chronicon Scotorum quote a Viking warlord named Orm [Horm] who was defeated on the battlefield by Rhodri Mawr in 856; it was the first victory of the troops of Bretland (Wales) over the so-called dark foreigners.
