This name is the combination of two biblical names; Pierre= Peter and Etiene/Etienne= Steven Peter (Greek) means "Rock". He was the apostle of whom Jesus said  "You are the rock I will build my church upon". Steven (Greek) means "a crown or a garland'.  Steven was also one of the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus,  and the first Martyr of the Early Christian church, which became the the Holy Roman Catholic (true/universal) Church. Steven is said to wear "the crown or garland" of a martyr, one who died for the faith,  a mark of the highest heavenly honor.
