Rādhā (davagari syllabary: राधा) is the consort of the Hindu god Krishna. He is a very famous character of Vaisnava literature (of the worshippers of Vishnu-Krishna), such as the Govind Guitá and the Bhagavata Purana. His relationship with Krishna is more detailed in texts such as the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, the Garga Samhita and the Brihad Gautamiya Tantra. Radharani is Krishna's best friend and companion in most of his hobbies in Vrindavana.

Her devotees call her Śrīmatī Rādhārānī (Mrs. Rādhā-queen), being:

  • śrī: sir or lady (neutral appellation of respect), literally 'fortune' or 'lucky'.
    • śrīmatī: 'lady', literally 'who possesses fortune'
  • rādhā: 'worshipper [of Krishna]' (precisely the word worship comes from the same Indo-European root as the Sanskrit term rādh)
  • rānī: 'queen', feminine of rāja or rash: 'king'). Both the Spanish and Sanskrit terms come from the same Indo-European root.

In various Vaishnava traditions, Rādhā is a main deity, avatar of the original goddess Lakshmī, the consort of the god Vishnu. In reality the Vaisnavas believe that Rādhā is the original personality of all the Mother Goddesses.

Radha is also the main object of worship in the Nimbarka Sampradaya tradition, as Nimbarka, the founder of the doctrine, declared that Radha and Krishna together constitute the absolute truth.

Today, the inhabitants of the city of Vrindavan (India) greet each other in the street with the cry "Rādhe Rādhe!"
