Rhoda is a female given name, originating in both Greek and Latin. Its primary meaning is "rose" but it can also mean "from Rhodes", the Greek island originally named for its roses. The name was mostly used in the 18th and 19th centuries but goes back at least to the first century as it is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible.

English: from the post-classical Greek name Rhoda, derived either directly from rhodon rose, or else indirectly as an ethnic name meaning ‘woman from Rhodes’, an island which possibly originally got its name from the same word rhodon. In the New Testament Rhoda was a servant in the house of Mary the mother of John, where Peter went after his release from prison by an angel (Acts 12: 13). In the Scottish Highlands Rhoda appears to be used as a feminine form of Roderick.
