Rishikesh is a town and a nagar panchayat in Dehradun district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas and attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year.

It is known as the gate of the Himalayas, as it serves as a starting point for Char Dham pilgrims who will visit Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri and is 25 km from another sacred city, Haridwar.

Rishikesh is also popular among whitewater rafters, due to the amount of foam that the level 2 and 3 rapids have.
