I have always loved my name, so it’s interesting to read about possible origins of the name. I always thought it originated in American Indian nations, or Mexico. But I never really knew. Thanks so much for the information!

My cousin did not get her name from a book. They say the origin is Cszech or Slavic in one article and in this article it is Latin? My cousin got the name from the state of Tennessee where she was born and lives. There was a Cherokee village called Tanasqui recorded by Spanish Explorers and the Tennessee River was called Tanasi (or Tanase). One writer has said the meaning is lost or the name cannot be analyzed, but the Cherokee said that the names mean "meeting place" (Tanasqui), "winding river", or "river of the great bend" which make sense to me. Strangely, in keeping with the name meaning "fairy queen",the Cherokee also believe in Little People. I read the online article Little People of the Cherokee.
