Yasu, Yasu', or Yassou is the Arabic proper name of Jesus, adopted by Arab Christians. In Arabic it is written يسوع . The name is the Arabic version of the Latin name Iēsus, derived from Iēsoûs (Ἰησοῦς), Greek form of the Aramaic name Yēšua (ישוע), which in turn is the abbreviated form of the Hebrew name Yehōšua (יהושע), which is the origin of the name "Jesus". The Hebrew name is also the origin of the name "Joshua." Thus, Yasu is the Arabic Christian version of "Jesus", used in Arabic translation of the Bible. But the name Jesus has another later Arabic translation which is 'Isa, used only by Muslims in their holy book, Qur'an, who also have their own view of Jesus. Yasu is also used by the children of Christian Arabs.
